Our Top Ten List:

How and Where to Find Merchandise to Sell on eBay

1.  Worldwide Brands - Worldwide Brands is one of the leading companies providing access to legitimate wholesale and dropshipping companies.  For $299 a year lifetime membership they offer access to over 8 million products, as well as tons of eBooks and articles on all aspects of online selling, plus a research tool available to subscribers which shows which products will sell well on eBay.  Dropshipping on eBay can be quite effective if you are able to find items to sell which are not highly competitive.  Worldwide Brands will help you find which items lack competition, and where to find them to sell on eBay. For a free preview look at their research tool (which gives you the saleability score, but not the name of the dropship or wholesale source), go to Free Preview

2.  Liquidation.com - Liquidation.com is an auction site where you can go and find bulk items for sale at wholesale prices, which you can then resell on eBay for a profit.  Lots can be small, from 2 items, up to thousands of items.

3.  Wholesale Lots Sold Through eBay - You can find wholesale lots for sale on eBay, which you can then break up and sell individual items on eBay.

4.  eBay's Reseller's Marketplace - While this program is only available to PowerSellers, it is worth noting.  The Reseller's Marketplace allows PowerSellers to get inventory directly from manufacturers, liquidators and wholesalers.  You can buy in lots in all different sizes, and get inventory with no long-term or minimum-volume commitments.

5.  Government Auctions - These include police impound auctions, IRS auctions, tax repos, drug-raid seizures, etc. There are online companies which offer access to information about these auctions, but many times the websites of the individual cities offer information for free.  For example, the city of San Diego offers this information at http://www.sandiego.gov/police/auctions.shtml.  Do check if your city or a city close by has a page on its website about local government auctions.  Sites like PropertyRoom.com has property from several different police departments around the country.  You might also want to check out GovernmentAuctions.org, where, if you follow this link you can Join GovernmentAuctions.org® and get a FREE Hotel Stay Certificate!

6.  Sell Other People's Items - You can sell other people's items, either through the eBay Trading Assistant program, or on your own.  You can then charge them a percentage of their profit.

7.  Buy Domain Names and Resell Them - Did you know that people sell domain names?  They do.  You can purchase a domain name from places like GoDaddy and, if it's one with popular keywords in it, you may be able to sell it for a profit.  Of course, most of the best names have already been bought. But, you can check GoDaddy's aftermarket program and see if any great expired names are up for sale.  If you're lucky, you can buy one cheap and resell on eBay.  Be sure to also keep an eye open for current trends and pop culture.  If you're able to spot something fast and register a name which reflects something new, you could make a very nice profit.

8.  Storage Units - Many storage companies will sell the contents of storage units whose owners are behind in their rental payments.  Stories abound about the treasures stored in storage units which have been bought at auction for just over a hundred bucks.

9.  Garage Sales - Garage sales are great places to find products for cheap.  Do be sure to do your homework ahead of time so that you know what price items are going for on eBay.  The downside of garage sales is that you may spend all day and come up empty handed.  But, often you can find something for dirt cheap that can make you a decent profit.

10.  Thrift Stores - Thrift stores are also a good place to find products, although many thrift stores take their best items and sell them online or at special auctions.  But, again, you may be able to find a product or two which can get you a decent profit.
